Great sky while driving home

Forbes 2015 – Day 3

Another great day in the sky! We got a 191km task, heading south west with two turnpoints to keep us out of airspace around Temora and West Wyalong. Conditions were windy, and the forecast was for lower base and weaker lift than yesterday.

I was one of the first to tow up, and hung around the startgate for one hour climbing and gliding against the 30-40km/h wind to stay inside the 10km startcircle. I met up with Olav Opsanger as we started at 13:45, and we stuck together for a while until Olav missed a lift and we got separated. I had another good run until I took a bad line just before the last TP where Attila, Johnny and a few others got above me.

The final glide was quite interesting in very strong lift and wind, going at 150km/h groundspeed into goal and strong thermals all the way making it difficult to get down.

Olav Opsanger came in just before me, with Olav Lien a few minutes behind. Thomas had a shorter day, he got alone after the start and had to land after 20 km. He got picked up and came to goal so we could all stop in West Wyalong for a gigantic meal to celebrate the day :-)
