Good day again, blue and lift to 2800 meters. 133 km south to the glider airport at Tocumwal. Nils and me got to goal together, Jon came in some time later. My glider was much better today after some adjustments to the tips.
Warming up now with 38 degrees. Forecasted strong winds tomorrow and low chance for flying.

Camping life
Nils having coffee at the pool in the morning.
Oz open, day 2 and 3
Good conditions both days, long tasks. I have as usual got a glider that needs work to go straight, made both my flights short.
Oslo – Deniliquin in 48 hours
Arrived, no flying today, too much wind. Gliders look good.

Otto in Oz
Otto Baste made an early start to the Oz season, flying with Tove’s XC tour in Dennilliquin. Yesterday he did a new personal best with 301km, north to Ivanhoe. Amazing fligh, landing at 20:30 at night, check out his tracklog. He reported a strong tailwind, blue conditions, and a late start. This is probably the longest flight by a Norwegian pilot ever, Otto also had the last such record with a similar 245km flight from Denniliquin two years ago.
Otto will be on our team for the Worlds. Jon is also in Oz, no news from him. Maybe he’s still flying :-)
Web sites for the Worlds
The official HGFA site for the worlds can be found at http://www.hgfa.asn.au/~worlds/ I find it lacking in both form and content for such an event as the worlds. It says “Under construction” right on the front page, while it’s less than one month before the competition. The site should have been complete 2 years ago.
There is a link to a forum – not working, link to photo album – not working. Actually most of the links are either coded wrong, or dead. The link to pilot registration lists 5 Australian pilots, where is the rest of the world? The deadline for registration was a month ago. Let’s hope the rest of the worlds crew is more on the ball than the webmaster who glued their site together.
The dynamic flight site has even less, and redundant content.
I’ve planned to blog from Oz on this site as usual, if Telstra provides GPRS to roaming international phones I can even post photos directly from my mobile. The GSM coverage in the towing field is very weak, so expect updates at night Oz time

Bird Technology
Anmal Planet has some really good video clips from the back of a soaring eagle. Extremely cool use of high technology. It really shows how similar the HG pilot and soaring bird viewpoints are. If we only had the same control of the wingtips…
Project Ornithopter
The Project Ornithopter will soon be flapping it’s wings. It’s an aeroplane that flaps it’s wings to generate lift and speed, like a bird.

It was no flying for me this weekend, we had the annual pre-christmas party in our club in Vågå. It was fun with around 25 pilots there, lots of good food and drinks at the hotel.
